State Comptroller Unclaimed Money

If you are like me you have probably been arrested unexpectedly, quit a job without notice, or have had your face all over the evening news which forced leave town abruptly... You may have unclaimed money under your name at your State's Comptroller. I did.

Most States require that any unpaid wages/salaries/funds etc be handed over to the State by the Payer (Job) if the Payee (you) cannot be located or found.

According to the NY State Comptroller (My State Comptroller) people usually have unclaimed funds for the following reasons:

Moved without notifying everyone with whom you do business of your new address.

Opened a school savings account as a child or for your own child and then forget about it.

Moved without getting your utility deposit refund.

Forget to cash a health insurance check.

Neglected to cash interest or dividend checks on a security.

Quit a job and never went back to get your last paycheck.

In cases like those listed, your money is eventually turned over to the State... at least it is supposed to be turned over... that is how you end up having "unclaimed funds" under your name. Even if you have never had a case or situation like those listed you should check anyways just to make sure... you may be surprised.

 

 

 

In 2006 I moved from New York and did not bother to check for a last pay check. Came Back to New York ...Ran a check for unclaimed funds... Found out that I was owed money. I Got Mines... GET YOURS!
